Ambassador Cycle 5 Announcement

It's been another great Ambassador session but its time for us to begin Cycle 5 of the program. This will be a new step for the program as Cycle five will be an entire year instead of only six months to get the Ambassadors even more involved and to have more time to work on longer projects.

What the Ambassadors achieved in the last cycle:

• The Ambassadors continued their various feedback and work in the development process for new products, upcoming product lines and improving current and future products (also quality issues)
• Received early info about several new products
• Given feedback to potential licensees

• became the "must go to" groups for many LEGO employees to get AFOL input

and way more that we can't tell you about!

This session has been as different as every session so far has been. The Ambassadors are establishing themselves more and more as the voice of the AFOL community within the LEGO Group and our colleagues want to get feedback from them about what they think about new products. So the understanding for and the cooperation with the AFOL community inside the LEGO Group is significant improving through the work of the Ambassador group.

They are creating great excitement within the company as well concerning what things are possible when working with AFOLs.

The folks in Cycle 4 have done a great job.

Again, thanks very much to the fourth cycle Ambassadors. You've done great things in the last months of your cycle and we're glad to have worked with you.

But seeing as the fourth cycle is coming to a close, it's time to open up the application process again. We'll be accepting applications from January 29th through February 11th and will announce the new cycle of Ambassadors at the beginning of March. So please send you application mail to AmbassadorProgram@LEGO.com. If you've applied in the past but not been accepted, you'll need to send your application email again (hopefully updated with your latest activities).

To those who will be chosen as Ambassadors for the next cycle we can promise that they will face big challenges but also will be big opportunities to bring the word of the community into the LEGO Group.

There will be the possibility to submit new ideas along with the mood and feeling of the community directly to the LEGO Group.  This will help the LEGO Group get a better understanding for how we will develop products as well as how we will work with the AFOL Community in the Future.

We will also establish:

-       a quarterly newsletter written by the Ambassador group for the AFOL community and the LEGO Group
-       a process to provide more regularly feedback to products and other issues
-       a test building concept

and other important things to make the program even better.

So face the challenge and take the opportunity to make a difference!

Regarding the application:

You will need submit a written application with all of the information you think is necessary to give us the best picture of what you do in the AFOL community online and offline.  The application should explain why you think we should choose you to be an Ambassador and to speak for the whole AFOL community.

So be creative and informative.

We are looking forward to seeing a ton of applications in our inbox!

betakaroten

Otázka stále zní, zda to má smysl.

Hello LEGO Enthusiasts,

We're happy to announce that the nomination process for LEGO Ambassador Cycle 7 is now open.

The LEGO Ambassador Program is designed to give the AFOL Community a direct line into the LEGO Company. The Program is essentially a gathering of community representatives that speak on behalf of the larger communities they are a part of. This group is able to bring forward the interests, concerns and questions directly to LEGO Employees.

Who's allowed to nominate?

Any AFOL Community Group (online or on the map) will have the opportunity to submit nominations from their group (up to 3 people if they so choose). Not everyone can be selected for the program in order to keep the group manageable.

If you choose to submit a nomination it does not mean that your candidate will be chosen, but it does mean that your group will have just as much an opportunity to get involved in having a direct representative in the LEGO Ambassador Program. We will try to get a diverse group of people who are able to represent the whole AFOL community as good as possible.

Groups can certainly nominate someone already in the Ambassador Program, but the program has a two term limit in order to opportunites for more people to be involved. After a term out of the program, a previous Ambassador can be re-nominated (this rule only started with cycle 6 so all current Ambassadors are still eligible).

A group that submits a nomination for the LEGO Ambassador program should be established and known within the LEGO Community.

What should a nomination have in it?

• Name and age of the nominee.
• Where is the nominee from?
• Which Group does this nominee represent?
• Does this person consent to being nominated (Please do not submit a nomination on behalf of someone you have not discussed with
beforehand).
• Explanation of who the nominees are, what their activities are, and why they would be a good representative of their community
(at least 3 testimonials from members of nominating group are required)
• Key interests of the nominee (themes, building styles, and some examples of their building)

NEW!!!

• Platform – The nominations should now include a list of the goals that the nominee and the community he/she represents are looking
to accomplish as part of the program. Remember the LEGO Ambassador Program is all about the AFOL community having
representation into the LEGO Group, so this is an effort to have you think ahead as to what you really think would benefit your
communities the most.

When is the Nomination Due?

July 1, 2009 by midnight GMT. If a nomination is received after this time it will be automatically rejected.
The new cycle will be announced on approximately July 8, 2009.

Who Should the Nominations be sent too?

Nominations should be sent directly to steve@lego.com

What might a LEGO Ambassador be committing too?

• LEGO Ambassadors are committing to represent their communities interests to the LEGO Group.
• There are projects that Ambassadors can take part in, it is up to the individual to decide what they may or may not be interested in
working on. It all comes down to how they feel they can best represent their community.
• Online discussions will be held for the Entire group of Ambassadors that will include members of the LEGO Community Team and
other LEGO Employees as well.
• In order to get the most out of the program you should be willing to give some time to in order to help discussions along.
If you don't give time to it then you may not be dishonoring the nomination you received from the community.

There is no NDA requirement to take part in the LEGO Ambassador Program for Cycle 7. There may be an instance where a special project will come up and the Ambassadors may have to sign an NDA to participate in that, but it will take place in a separate forum in order to limit confusion as to what can be said outside of the Ambassador program. Otherwise, anything shared in Ambassador Discussions can be shared with the AFOL Community.

This next session of the Ambassador Program will last approximately one year.
Thank you all. Your nominations are very valuable for helping the LEGO Community Team choose the next round of LEGO Ambassadors.

1 - LUGs who currently have a representative to document their qualifications in order to remain in the program.
2 - All LUGs who are not currently participating in the LEGO Ambassador Program need to send in a document showing they are qualified to participate in the program and choose a representative.
3 - LUGs already participating in the program will have the opportunity to let us know if they want to switch their current representative with another member of their LUG.

The open enrollment period will take place between October 18th and November 18th.   Please work together as a LUG (LEGO User Group both online and offline) to build an application for the program and select a representative.  Once the LEGO Community Engagement and Communications team receives your application (please send them to steve@lego.com - North America, jan@lego.com or j.foulds@lego.com) we will process them and let you know whether or not your meet the qualifications.

Part of your application will be to choose a representative from your LUG to act as your Ambassador to the LEGO Group.  You will need to determine this process as a LUG for choosing your representative.

Once the one month period is up the LEGO Community Engagement and Communications Team will invite your Ambassadors into the LEGO Ambassador Forum.  Your LUG will remain part of the program as long as you continue to meet the qualifications.  If your LUG is not ready to meet the qualifications during this open enrollment period there will be another enrollment period every six months.

We look forward to hearing from you.  Below is the outline of the program with all the details.  If you have any questions on the selection process please ask Steve Witt (steve@lego.com) or Jan Beyer (jan@lego.com).
